What is FuneralPlan?

A Standard Bank FuneralPlan gives you complete cover for you, your family and extended family. It also gives you access to a wide range of living benefits which means a better life.


Who can have it?

FuneralPlan is available to anyone under the age of 65 with any Standard Bank transaction or savings account and you don't need to have a medical examination to join.

FuneralPlan provides cover for funeral costs up to R10 000.

FuneralPlan policy holders have access to Standard Bank Customer Assist which provides the following benefits:

 

  • Emergency Ambulance –In the event of medical emergency such as heart attack, stroke, car accident, drowning, snake bite, etc the insured will be transported to a medical facility anywhere in South Africa free of charge. Also offers an amount of R5 000 guarantee for hospital admission is the insured is unable to pay or product a medical aid card. This guarantee is refundable.   
  • Doctor Network – provides access to a list of doctors who give policyholders and those insured under them a 20% discount on doctors’ consultation fees, medication and any medical procedures performed in the doctors’ consultation room. The 20% discount applies on a package deal where basic medication is dispensed by the doctor as part of the treatment and the cost thereof is included in the consultation fee.
  • Trauma Counselling for bereaved families – provides psychological counselling on death of next of kin. Support and advice up to R5 000 per insured with a maximum of R10 000 per family per occurrence.
  • Trauma Assist – provides counselling for any traumatic experience such as rape, hijack, child abuse, suicide, domestic violence and fire up to R5 000 per insured with a maximum of R10 000 per family per occurrence. Where necessary an ambulance will be dispatched.
  • Medical treatment – up to R5 000 per insured for medical treatment for any bodily injury with a maximum of R10 000 per family per occurrence. Provides assessment on day to day medical symptoms.
  • Medical Assist – deals with any health query 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Qualified medical personnel provide emergency advice on any medical condition, and information on poisoning, stress management and advice on prescribed drugs.
  • Telephonic counselling – on any chronic disease such as HIV, Aids and cancer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Emergency transport – an ambulance will be dispatched where necessary.
  • Home Assist – a 24-hour service helpline offering assistance with emergency household repairs such as electricity, hot water or sanitation. Service providers will be sent to you in the event of electrical and plumbing problems. In addition, a service provider will be sent in the case of an essential appliance needing repairs such as a fridge, freezer, washing machine, stove or oven. The services are available at preferential rates to you and those insured under your policy.
  • Funeral Assist – provides advice on how to apply for a death certificate and documents needed if a burial is to take place outside the Republic of South Africa (RSA). Overnight accommodation for an accompanying family member for up to R500 will be made when the deceased must be moved to another place for burial.

What extra benefits do I enjoy if my policy is 24 months or older?

 

  • Monthly payments will be waived for 6 months after the death of the principal policyholder

 

Does FuneralPlan take care of my family after the funeral?

 

  • Your beneficiary will be paid a monthly payout of R1 200 for five months after your death provided your policy has been in force for 18 months or longer.

 

  • There is a six month waiting period for immediate family and a twelve month waiting period for parents and parents-in-law before cover is effective
  • Accidental death is covered once the first premium has been received.
